Our Story

A home built on the belief that everyone deserves to live well

The Phoenix

Our logo is a phoenix. We chose it deliberately. The phoenix represents rebirth, new beginnings, and the possibility of a life that is different from what came before but no less meaningful. For many of the people who come to King's Lodge, the life they knew has changed. An accident, a diagnosis, a progressive condition that has taken something away. The phoenix says: there is still life here. There is still joy to be found. And we will help you find it.

What We Believe

King's Lodge exists because of a simple conviction: people with complex neurological needs deserve more than clinical management. They deserve a home. A place where they are known by name. Where their preferences matter. Where the food is cooked fresh, the gardens are accessible, and three dogs wander the corridors dispensing the kind of comfort that no care plan can prescribe.

We are a specialist neurological and complex care home set in the Surrey countryside, in the village of South Nutfield. Our building houses 61 en-suite rooms. Our team provides round-the-clock nursing. But what makes us different is not what we have. It is how we think.

Our Mission

"To see people with complex needs reach their full potential and be enabled to live full, content and thriving lives through innovative, quality all-round care and support."

How We Care

Every person who lives at King's Lodge has a care plan written around them, not around their condition. Yes, we manage medication. Yes, we monitor clinical observations. Yes, we have the specialist equipment and the trained nurses. But we also ask: what did this person love doing before they came here? Who matters to them? What makes a good day for them?

A resident who loved gardening gets time in the garden. A resident who always watched the cricket gets it on the television with a cup of tea at the right time. A resident who finds calm in music gets music. These are not extras. They are the care.

We employ a full activities team because we believe that what happens between clinical interventions matters just as much as the interventions themselves. Our therapy dogs, our sensory room, our cooking sessions and quiz nights and garden projects: these are not nice-to-haves. They are central to how people heal, adapt, and live well.

Our Vision

We are working towards something specific. Our vision is to become the most innovative, person-centric provider of choice for complex and neurological care in Southern England. Not the biggest. Not the cheapest. The best. Measured not by our own marketing but by what families say when they leave our building. By what professionals experience when they refer to us. By the quality of life our residents actually have, day to day.

The Team

King's Lodge is operated by Alum Care Limited and led by a team that combines clinical expertise with genuine warmth. Our Registered Manager, Monica, knows every resident personally. Our Clinical Lead, Zuzana, sets the standard for nursing care. Our senior carers, led by Mariana, are the heart of daily life. And our activities coordinator, Jane, makes sure that every day has something in it worth getting up for.

We call ourselves "a devoted extended family" because that is what we are. Many of our staff have been here for years. They know the residents. The residents know them. And that continuity, that familiarity, is something you cannot replicate with agency workers or high staff turnover.

The Place

King's Lodge sits on Kings Cross Lane in South Nutfield, Surrey. It is a peaceful setting with accessible gardens, away from the noise of town but close enough to Redhill and the M25 for easy visiting. The building provides 61 en-suite rooms across general and specialist units, including a dedicated tracheostomy and ventilation unit, bariatric-equipped rooms, and two starter flats for residents working towards greater independence.

A GP visits twice weekly. Specialist consultants are available on referral. And our in-house kitchen, led by Chef Margaret, prepares every meal fresh on-site because we believe food is not just nutrition. It is comfort, routine, and pleasure.
