Our Commitment
King's Lodge is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We continually work to improve the user experience for everyone who visits our website, and we apply the relevant accessibility standards to achieve this.
This website aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities.
What We Have Done
We have taken the following steps to ensure our website is accessible:
- Semantic HTML: We use proper heading hierarchy, landmark regions, and semantic elements throughout the site so that screen readers and assistive technologies can interpret the content correctly.
- Skip navigation: A "skip to main content" link is available at the top of every page, allowing keyboard users to bypass repetitive navigation.
- Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements, including navigation menus, forms, buttons, and accordions, are fully operable using a keyboard alone.
- Focus indicators: Visible focus outlines are provided on all interactive elements so that keyboard users can see where they are on the page.
- Colour contrast: Text and interactive elements meet or exceed the minimum contrast ratios specified in WCAG 2.1 AA (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text).
- Alt text: All meaningful images include descriptive alternative text. Decorative images are marked as such and hidden from assistive technologies.
- Responsive design: The website is designed to work on all screen sizes and orientations, and content can be zoomed to 200% without loss of functionality.
- Reduced motion: We respect the "prefers-reduced-motion" operating system setting. When enabled, animations and transitions are minimised.
- Form labels: All form fields have visible labels and are programmatically associated with their labels for screen reader users.
- ARIA attributes: Where necessary, ARIA roles, states, and properties are used to enhance the accessibility of interactive components such as dropdown menus and mobile navigation.
- Readable fonts: We use clear, legible typefaces and maintain sufficient line spacing for comfortable reading.
Known Limitations
While we strive for full accessibility, some areas of the website may not yet be fully optimised:
- Some third-party content or embedded media may not meet all accessibility standards.
- PDF documents linked from this site may not be fully accessible. We are working to provide accessible alternatives where needed.
We are actively working to identify and resolve any remaining accessibility issues.
