Frequently Asked Questions

Honest answers to the questions families ask us most often.

King's Lodge provides specialist care for people living with acquired brain injury (ABI), Huntington's disease, motor neurone disease (MND), multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson's disease, stroke, spinal cord injury, epilepsy, and other complex neurological conditions. We also offer tracheostomy and ventilation care, bariatric care, and respite stays.

Care can be funded through NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC), local authority funding, self-funding, or a combination. The funding route depends on your loved one's assessed needs. Our team can guide you through the assessment process and help you understand what funding may be available. We are happy to discuss this in confidence at any time.

Yes. King's Lodge has an open visiting policy. Families are welcome at any time, and we encourage regular visits. You are also welcome to join in activities, share meals, and spend time in the communal areas or gardens. We believe that staying connected with family is essential to wellbeing.

King's Lodge has 61 en-suite bedrooms, plus specialist bariatric rooms and ventilated rooms. We also have two starter flats for residents who are working towards more independent living. Beds are currently available — please call us on 01737 822221 to discuss availability.

We focus exclusively on neurological and complex care. Every member of staff is trained in the specific conditions we support. We provide 24-hour nursing, a full activities programme tailored to individual interests, three resident therapy dogs, and a culture built around knowing every person by name. Our CQC rating is Good, and families regularly tell us that King's Lodge feels like a real home, not an institution.

It starts with a phone call. We will discuss your loved one's needs, arrange a visit so you can see the home and meet the team, and then carry out a full clinical assessment. If King's Lodge is the right fit, we work with you, the funding authority, and any existing care team to plan a smooth and supported move-in. There is no pressure at any stage.

King's Lodge provides 24-hour nursing care, seven days a week. Our team includes registered nurses, senior carers, care assistants, a clinical lead, an activities coordinator, a head chef, and support staff. Staffing levels are set to ensure every resident receives the attention and clinical support they need, day and night.

Our activities programme includes cooking and baking, arts and crafts, gardening, bridge club, sensory room sessions, themed evenings, community outings, hairdressing, and one-to-one sessions. Everything is tailored around individual interests and abilities by our activities coordinator, Jane. We believe that meaningful activity is just as important as clinical care.

Yes. Our head chef Margaret prepares all meals fresh on site and works closely with the care team to accommodate dietary requirements, allergies, texture modifications (such as pureed or soft diets), and personal food preferences. Mealtimes are social occasions, and we go to great lengths to make sure food is something residents look forward to.

King's Lodge is located on Kings Cross Lane in South Nutfield, Surrey (RH1 5PA). The nearest train station is Nutfield, approximately one mile away.
